Cuefields — CASE STUDY

End-to-End Ownership of a Full SaaS Product Ecosystem

00 — Executive Summary

CueFields is a full-stack SaaS platform designed for precision sports (snooker & pool).
I owned the entire product lifecycle, from concept to system design, business logic, UX, delivery, and growth.

Unlike a simple scoring tool, CueFields is a complete ecosystem, built around:

  • a real-time match engine

  • a scoring & frame system

  • leagues, rankings, and progression logic

  • subscription plans with gated capabilities

  • advanced player analytics (SPR, H2H, patterns)

  • a unified notification system

  • a functional architecture designed for national scale

CueFields represents my ability to design, architect, and deliver a complex product end-to-end, with coherence, clarity, and strategic depth.

01 — Context & Objectives

A. The problem space

Before CueFields, players had:

  • no centralized stats

  • no ranking or progression model

  • no unified scoring experience across clubs

  • no meaningful analytics about performance

  • no motivating structure to track improvement

B. The vision

Create a product capable of:

  • tracking performance accurately

  • structuring national snooker competitions

  • engaging players through progression

  • providing meaningful insights

  • supporting a subscription-based business model

  • delivering a fast, intuitive experience for real matches

CueFields became the first complete digital ecosystem for snooker players in my region.

03 — Functional Architecture — The Core of CueFields

CueFields is fundamentally a logic-heavy, rules-driven platform.
I designed every core system from the ground up.

A. The Match Engine

The real-time match engine is the backbone of the platform.

I designed:

  • Match → Frame → Break hierarchy

  • match creation flows

  • status transitions (pending → active → completed → disputed)

  • validation rules

  • restrictions based on subscription plans

  • anti-abuse rules (timeouts, repeated edits, etc.)

  • error handling and conflict resolution scenarios

Goal: reliability, clarity, zero ambiguity.

B. Frame & Scoring Logic

To model real snooker accurately, I built:

  • foul detection logic

  • automated break calculation

  • frame-win logic

  • match-win decision engine

  • best break tracking

  • color-clearance logic

All rules are deterministic, consistent, and fully traceable.

C. Leagues & Ranking Algorithms

I designed a complete progression model, inspired by modern competitive systems:

  • Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum leagues

  • dynamic coefficients based on:

    • opponent’s league

    • match difficulty

    • win/loss result

    • scoring patterns

I also structured:

  • national leaderboard logic

  • monthly progression reports

  • anti-abuse mechanisms (anti-boosting)

This system gives CueFields its sporting legitimacy and long-term engagement.

D. Subscription Architecture

Plans include:

  • Free

  • Basic

  • Premium

  • Ultimate

I defined:

  • capabilities unlocked per plan

  • access to premium stats

  • gating logic for match features

  • upgrade/downgrade flows

  • notifications for activation, payments, pending validations

  • rules for eligibility & limitations

This created a clear monetization engine within the product.

E. Advanced Analytics & Insight Models

I designed all statistical engines, including:

SPR (Snooker Performance Rating:  A proprietary metric summarizing player skill and consistency.

– Head-to-Head Engine:

Automatically computes:

  • wins/losses

  • dominance patterns

  • historic sequences

  • matchup-specific strengths/weaknesses

– Special Stats:

  • “Nemesis” player

  • “Favorite” player

  • biggest victory margin

  • consistency score

  • pressure-response patterns

These insights create emotional engagement, essential for retention.

04 — Notification System (Cross-Module Events)

I designed an event-driven notification ecosystem covering:

  • match invitations

  • accept / reject

  • match results

  • subscription activation

  • upgrade validation

  • league progression

  • badge unlocks (future implementation)

Each notification includes:

  • contextual payload

  • sender info

  • target entity (match, clan, plan, etc.)

This system ties the entire product together with real-time awareness.

05 — User Experience Design

Players

- onboarding
- match creation
- frame-by-frame scoring
- receiving stats & insights
- league progression
- subscription upgrades

Administrators

- managing leagues
- reviewing disputes
- tracking players
- overseeing rankings

The UX principles I enforced:

  • clarity

  • speed

  • zero-friction flows

  • mobile-first orientation

  • progressive disclosure

06 — Results & Product Impact

✔ A coherent, scalable functional system

Capable of supporting thousands of players and national leagues.

✔ A retention engine

Stats, insights, and progression loops keep players engaged long-term.

✔ Monetization ready

Subscription system is flexible, dynamic, and expansion-ready.

✔ Future-proof architecture

Easily extendable to:

  • 8-ball

  • national events

  • coaching & AI analysis

  • reward systems

  • clubs dashboards

07 — What CueFields Taught Me

CueFields shaped my Product DNA.

Great products are systems — not pages.
Their success depends on clear business logic, coherent rules, and user-centered simplicity.

CueFields strengthened my ability to:

  • turn complex domains into predictable systems

  • balance usability with business value

  • define rules that scale

  • create clarity for engineering

  • think structurally, not feature-by-feature

It remains one of the clearest demonstrations of my end-to-end product ownership.

08 — Conclusion

CueFields is not “a project.”
It’s a complete ecosystem, proving my capacity to:

  • lead a product vision

  • architect a full functional system

  • deliver a high-complexity SaaS

  • align business, experience, and technology

  • think long-term about scale and growth

This case study is one of the strongest assets of your portfolio as a Technical Product Leader.
